The course invites participants to explore how ethical theories can support decision-making in complex and challenging business situations. It introduces business ethics as both a theoretical field and a practical framework for understanding and addressing ethical challenges in contemporary organizations. The course also examines how ethical thinking shapes relationships and responsibility in the business environment.
Participants will explore key ethical concepts and major ethical theories, including utilitarianism, deontology, theory of justice, and feminist ethics. The course examines how these perspectives can be applied to analyse dilemmas that arise in real business situations. Learners will also develop an understanding of the role of critical thinking in evaluating arguments and justifying ethical decisions.
The course places strong emphasis on the broader social context of business. Participants will engage with concepts such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), transparency, accountability, and stakeholder theory. These topics are used to analyse how organizations interact with society and how responsible business practices can be assessed and improved.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a structured understanding of ethical frameworks and gained practical tools to analyse business dilemmas, support responsible decision-making, and critically assess the role of business in society.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain key concepts of ethics, business ethics, corporate social responsibility, transparency, accountability, and stakeholder theory.
- Describe and compare major ethical theories (utilitarianism, deontology, theory of justice, feminist ethics) in the context of business decision-making.
- Analyse ethical dilemmas in business using appropriate theoretical frameworks.
- Evaluate alternative courses of action and justify decisions using ethical reasoning.
- Apply critical thinking to construct coherent and well-justified arguments in ethical discussions.
- Demonstrate awareness of the ethical implications of business decisions and their impact on society and stakeholders.
